Pucker Up Buttercup!!!!

Today is one of those days where I had totally planned on a different topic to talk about and totally switched lanes. In fact, I almost didn’t even post today. I was going to put out a little thing saying sorry, I’ll see you tomorrow. I was so not interested in the subject I had chosen. But then I went to the almighty Google and looked up the holidays for today and found this little gem…National Kissing Day…let’s go.

Kissing is just fun…there are no ways around it. Anything from a shy first peck on the cheek, to friends greeting you the European way to full on passion like in the movies, kissing is a good time. And it has been around for a long time.

The first mention of kissing was in the Vedas, Sanskrit writings, from around 3,500 years ago. In the Bible, it is mentioned in Genesis. And it was such a great thing, that it never went away. Oh, Pope Clement V tried to outlaw it in the 1300s, thinking a kiss will lead to other things…he was a little bit right on that score, but it eventually got overturned.

I had my first kiss when I was 7. We were living in Scranton, PA and I was friends with the kid upstairs named Teddy. We were in the same class and hung out together. I don’t remember how it happened or how often we did it, but my sister remembers walking in on us one day. I liked it, I really liked it, and I have been kissing ever since.

I am a total romantic when it comes to kissing. I love it when it happens in the movies and it’s big and dramatic. Rhett and Scarlett in “Gone With The Wind”, Holly Golightly and Paul Varjak at the end of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” Bridget and Mark in “Bridget Jones’s Diary and on the small screen, Ross and Rachel’s big kiss in the coffee shop on “Friends”. I am not one to watch a lot of romance type movies, except for Rom-Coms, so when a big kiss happens in a regular movie and the build up is just right…it is perfection.

So, now that you know what today is, how are you going to celebrate? If you are in a relationship, then go kiss your other half, make sure it is a toe curling, hot and heavy kind of kiss. If you are not part of a duo, then maybe go out and buy some Hershey’s Kisses and watch some good old-fashioned movie kissing. There’s a lot of different movies to choose from. Don’t like a romantic type movie? You don’t have to, go watch “Die Hard”. It’s an action flick with a little kissing at the end. I am always up for watching Bruce Willis kissing somebody, LOL. However you want to do it, go celebrate kissing today. It’s the little things in life that make life worth living.

***Question for the comments…What was your first kiss? What is your favorite kiss in a movie or television show?

  1. Lol! Teddy Durkin!!!! My first kiss was Pat King in 6th grade. I, too, kept right on kissing. One of my favorite things to do. Pope Clement V was right…especially with MY husband. 😉 And right now I’m watching Downton Abbey, so I will NOT kiss me, because as Janet Weiss sings, “🎶 it only leads to trouble and…”🎶 🤣🤣🤣

      1. I agree with you, Tracie, not always triable. Kissing is a treat that I am missing at the moment. And I will watch Casablanca with you any day 😉

  2. Ahhh, first kisses 🥰 … so my first kiss was on my Junior Prom night. … yep, believe it. I was very shy. The boy who asked me to that dance, well he practically taught me how to kiss… of, course, I have learned some other things since then. 😂
