What’s on Your Bucket List??

What exactly is a bucket list? I really never heard the term before seeing the 2007 movie with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in the theater, but then it was everywhere. There are lists you can choose from and books to read to make your own bucket list. So, a bucket list is a list (obviously, lol) of experiences and achievements a person hopes to accomplish in their lifetime before they die…or “kick the bucket”, which is how the phrase came to be. My question to you is this, do you have a list of things you would like to do before going on to our final destination or do you just take opportunities and experiences as they come and only live in the moment?

I am a list maker, but you knew that. I have a short list of things I would like to see and do, but I will still have lived a great life if I never get to do any of those things. Some people make the list and hold on so tight to it, then are so disappointed they never got a chance to do the list, but I would imagine if they took the time to look back through their life, they would see some pretty incredible things that were never on the list to begin with.

Making a bucket list can be a good thing. It can be a great tool to help you focus on goals and help you move towards your dreams. I am a big believer in writing those things down, but I am also a big believer in going with the flow and letting life unfold. I guess I am a list maker that hardly looks at the list. I just go out there and do my thing, while my list is sitting in a drawer somewhere.

What are some of the things on my bucket list?

  1. To be in Dublin, Ireland to celebrate a St. Patrick’s Day
  2. To ride in a hot air balloon
  3. To be on the New York Times best seller list
  4. To own the graffiti satchel bag from Chanel

Those are a few of the things I would like to see happen in my life. I will, however, not go to pieces if they don’t happen. I have seen and done some awesome things in my life and when my time comes, and I look back and reflect, I think I will remember all the laughter over stupid fun things instead of big trips and big experiences. Knowing me, I’ll be on my death bed singing the song “Seasons in the Sun” just to annoy my sister one last time. Because I plan to go out laughing.

When I think about it, the real things for me on a bucket list would be love, fun, laughter, friendship. These are the things that make up a great life, and I already have those things in abundance. But I’m still going after that Chanel bag!!!

Question for the comments…Do you have a bucket list? If you do, tell me one thing from your list.

  1. SNORT! Thanks! Now that will be a damn earworm for the rest of the day…Ok, let’s get serious for a minute. 💩 I CAN’T! 🎶we had joy, we had fun…this effing song really sucks🎶
Ok ok ok…I had written a long time ago that I wanted to own an original work of art. I was thinking Manet, right? Or maybe Georgia O’Keefe. Turns out I actually have FOUR. My paintings Adele did for me! Go back and check the last every few years, you’ll be surprised.

  2. I will start by thanking you for the earworm! Oh boy. But as to a bucket list, I really don’t have one. I’ve been very blessed in my life to have done so much already. I sometimes look at some of my friends and realize how blessed I am. I’ve traveled much of the continental US, been to a lot of the National Parks, I have a couple of art pieces that while they aren’t from famous people, they mean something to me. I may not have much in the way of material things, but I’m satisfied. I’m always up for an adventure, so who knows what may happen.

    1. I think that is awesome!!! I will pick expierences over stuff anytime. And if those experiences are just having a blast hanging on the porch with good friends and a good drink…I’ll take that over everything else 🙂

  3. I agree will all that is written, that fun, family and friends, adventure with God, brings all the joy that I need in this life. But, oh Yeah, I do have a bucket list! 😂 I have had one since High school. I won’t regret if I don’t achieve or experience anything on it but I will tell you the number one item is to see a musical 🎵 performance at the Sydney Opera House. I have been close one time in that I spoke to a travel agent about a trip to Australia for that purpose … but then I got pregnant… $$ had to be repurposed…. now my kids are 20+ … so it may happen soon 🎶

  4. No list really…in a way I thought a bucket list was for of the well off people who could afford it…like the movie (great movie by the way…hilarious) the things they got to do would be more like a dream for me in fact for me that’s what was so enjoyable about the movie…they took me on a journey I could never afford…but at the end it all comes down to new friendships…and mending lost relationships and being ok with how it worked out even if it didn’t work out the way you wanted

    1. James, there are sooo many things you can do that don’t cost anything or very little. Do you want to read certain books? Library. Learn a language? Library. I made my list and then made note of what I can do now without spending any money. Stuff will get done before you realize it. I wrote that I wanted to own an original work of art. I was thinking Manet, etc. A few years ago, I realized I own 4. My DIL painted me a canvas every Christmas for 4 years! I wanted a past, present, and future ring. I ended up with the ring, BUT it was cubic zirconia. I couldn’t love it more than if the stones were diamonds. Make the list, James. Just. Make. The. List.
