Here We Go Again…

Ok, so we made it through the first 8 weeks of the year eating semi healthy and the challenge we made ended on the 3rd. of March. I already told you how I did and the trouble I had. Then came the weekend of eating whatever we wanted to, and we totally enjoyed it.

We had pizza and McDonalds. We went to some of our favorite places and ate our favorite foods there. We didn’t go too crazy. It’s not like I went out and bought a big bag of peanut M&Ms or drank a milkshake every day. I am not saying I didn’t want to, lol, I did restrain myself a little bit. But then we got to Monday and Neil’s birthday.

Actually, let me backtrack to Sunday first. Usually, about once a month our Pastor, Dennis, takes the worship team out to lunch after services. If it is someone’s birthday month, he will bring a store-bought cake and we celebrate. This was the plan for this past Sunday. The morning started off with our friend Frankie bringing in donuts for the group. They were from my favorite bakery, and they were delicious. Of course, the leftovers came home with us. After church it was off to lunch, and I ate a loco moco. This is a plate that consists of white rice, a hamburger, brown gravy and an egg on top with a side of macaroni salad. Sounds really weird, right? But trust me when I say it works perfectly together.

So, after we eat, Dennis brings out this box with tin foil on top…not the usual store-bought cake. He had gotten up extremely early to make his famous pineapple upside cake. This thing is truly heavenly. There were 9 of us there and we still had a third of the cake left. And you guessed it, we took it home. So now we had donuts and cake in the house with only 1 more day till the “binge weekend” was over. Thankfully, some of my neighbors took a couple of pieces off of our hands.

This brings us to Monday and Neil’s birthday. We ate out all 3 meals!! Lunch time was the best, because we went to Murphy’s Irish Pub with our friends Gloria and Alissa. Frankie works there, so we got to see him. For dessert the girls all had Kona Coffee gelato and Neil had mango sorbet. OMG…best gelato I ever had. Sneaky Gloria grabbed the check before I could and ruined my plan to treat everybody. That’s okay, because when she least expects it, I get her back. It really was a great weekend for dining.

Now the plan is to do another 4 weeks of healthy eating. That means no junk food or fast food like before. It’s only for one month this time because my birthday is April 7. I decided I needed an actual game plan to get me through the next 30 days. I want to make sure I really eat healthy and exercise this time. Have you heard of 75 Hard? It is an extremely difficult fitness challenge that consists of working out twice a day, following a meal plan of your choice, drinking a ton of water, reading 10 pages of a book and other things for 75 days. I am not up to that kind of level, so I made up my own.

Welcome to 30 Easy. For 30 days, starting yesterday, I will exercise for 30 minutes daily, I will drink 100 ounces of water, I will read 10 pages a day and I will follow the Mediterranean Diet plan. 75 Hard also has you taking a 5-minute cold shower (that’s a hard no for me), daily progress photos (once a week is fine for me) and a daily random act of kindness (I can do that). So, there you go, my game plan for the next 30 days. I feel like this totally doable. I just have to make myself check off the boxes daily. Who knows, maybe after my birthday I will be ready to bump it up to 75 Easy. Either way, I’ll let you know how I am doing.

    1. ok sounds like a plan. we will talk about your tweaks in a few minutes. I guess I lose extra points today, I am drawing a blank and I know I will want to kick myself when you tell me.


  2. My favorite healthy meal is grilled salmon with gently roasted broccoli or Parmesan Brussel sprouts or grilled asparagus and a side salad of baby greens, yellow tomatoes, onions, shredded carrots, sunflower seeds and blue cheese crumbles!

  3. I am not one for challenges. I just try to keep my portions small. I have struggled most of my life with my weight. I did join a gym once and lost 110 lbs. I have a ways to go but I am losing slowly. I do better if I get on the scales three of four times a week. My favorite healthy meal is a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. Like you, I love pasta and bread.
