I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and I came upon an ad for The Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia. In front of the building was a sign that read Kellerman’s. For those of you who don’t know or remember Kellerman’s was the resort Baby and her family went to in “Dirty Dancing”. It brought me back to 1987. I was sitting in the movie theater watching this movie and wanting to go there and spend the summer. It was beautiful. I wanted to swim in the lake, go to dinner dressed up with my family; I even wanted to play games in the big house on a rainy day. Even looking at the ad, I wished I could have that experience.
That started me thinking about all the other places I wished I could go to that were pure fiction. Have you ever wanted to go visit a place you have seen in a movie or on television that aren’t real? You know, to go be in that place with the characters, to hang out and have a good time? Tell me in the comments your favorite fictional spot.
Even though I am considered too old to like Harry Potter, I would like to visit Hogwarts and Diagon Alley. My nephew and niece were big into the books and movies, and I had heard about it, but didn’t think much of it. A series about a wizard school didn’t pique my interest, I was already over 30. But, one day years ago I was sitting around the house flipping through the channels looking for something to watch and “Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone” was just starting, so, o.k. let me see what all the fuss was about. I loved it. I kinda wished I could go back in time to being 12 years old and receive my own letter. I rewatched all of them recently because I wanted to see the 20-year anniversary special on HBO Max. They really are good movies. One day I will read the books.
Another place on my hit parade is Central Perk from “Friends”. I remember being in front of the television when the show premiered. I was 24 years old, around the same age as the gang. I had always wanted to live in New York City and this coffee shop would be a daily stop. I am a little bit goofy and quirky, and I think I would have fit in great as the seventh friend. Joey was the actor, so I would be the writer who spent all day at the coffee house, wired on caffeine writing about everything that was going on. If you know me, you know you can see it.
The last place I will tell you about is Stars Hollow from “Gilmore Girls”. I didn’t watch it when it aired the first time, I actually only saw it a few years ago when it went to Netflix. But this has turned out to one of my favorite shows ever. I don’t know if I could live there, but I could definitely go once a month for whatever silly festival they had going on. I like small town charm, but only in small doses. Of course, I would eat at Luke’s diner, shop at Doose’s market and go to the town meetings. I could give Lorelei a run for her money in talking fast and while I haven’t read all the same books as Rory, I have read enough of them to have a decent conversation with her.
I have a few more places on my list, but these are my top picks. Now it’s time for you to let me know in the comments what places you would like to go to. I am really interested in seeing your answers. Oh, by the way, I know this is Wednesday and not a day I normally post, but it is now, Lol. I have decided to go up to 4 days a week with the blog. Thanks for reading.
