Mmmmm…Caffeine…It Does a Body Good!!!

I love caffeine in every shape it comes in…coffee, soda, energy drinks, chocolate covered espresso beans, any form it takes, I am here for it. As I sit here drinking a Dunkin Donuts coffee with my Hershey’s chocolate caramel creamer I cannot recall when I first had this wonderful elixir. It had to be a soda or a few sips of my mother’s coffee, all I know is that it began a love affair that will never cease.

Back in middle school and the beginning of high school soda was my drink of choice. I am a Pepsi girl (sorry, not sorry), but will never turn down a Coke if that’s all that is available to me. I also love Dr. Pepper, “the liquid physician”. My church youth leader, Mike Rallo, was obsessed with Dr. Pepper. He even chewed the gum that when you bit into it there was the liquid inside. Pretty soon he had to supply all of us with gum, because he had us hooked. LOL, every time I drink a Pepper, I think of him.

Then came the coffee. They say coffee stunts your growth, hmmm…maybe that’s why I am short…Anyway, I like my coffee sweet and light, but not so light you don’t know it’s coffee. Hot, iced, flavored, not flavored…you see the pattern, right? It doesn’t matter, just hand me one. The only thing I can’t quite do is black coffee. I’ve tried but can only do it if it’s iced. Thank goodness there’s cold brew, it doesn’t get so watered down when you pour it over a big glass of ice. And I love all the variations of coffee…lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, this list goes on and on and on.

Energy drinks are dangerous for me because the flavors are yummy, especially Bang. I remember one time I was supposed to work a double shift at the Cheesecake Factory in Baltimore many moons ago. I knocked down 2 cans of Red Bull back-to-back at the end of the first shift and then gave up my second shift at the last minute. I was buzzing so hard waiting for the bus; I couldn’t keep still. Thank God it was snowing, people probably thought I was freezing instead of tripping on the drink that gives you wings LOL!

I have gotten a little better with my intake of caffeine. It is no longer the got to have it all day obsession it once was, it’s now more like a mild addiction. I am better at the drinking more water in between my caffeine fixes throughout the day, because H2O does a body good also, or so they say. (LOL, just kidding, I try to stay hydrated) But remember this, I will never turn down an invitation to go and have a caffeinated drink with you, but if you ask me to go drink some water with you…sorry, I’ll be busy that day!!

***Question for the comments…Do you drink caffeine? What is your favorite type to consume? If not, any particular reason? I won’t hold it against you, I promise, just curious.

  1. Caffeine…mmmm…I’m a tea girl (and Tracie knows this). I think it’s the only thing I inherited from her. You probably had coffee at Karl and Ginny’s. I like may coffee light and sweet as you do. Energy drinks are disgusting. They taste like the taurine they put in there. If I wanted the shakes, I’d pop a Dexatrim 🤣. Thank God college days are over! Coke, NEVER Pepsi. I’d rather drink water than Pepsi. I drink tea all day long (except for my mocha in the a.m.), and the caffeine doesn’t affect me it all. I drink tea at 1 a.m. and still fall asleep no problem.

  2. Oh Wow!! I had no idea you were so hooked haha! My favorite is tea. Matcha green tea!! I even started my own tea line. Kelly’s Motivational Matcha. Just like your coffee obsession, I love Matcha tea and Matcha flavored anything!! So good!!

  3. Coffee. I drink it black all day and night. I used to put cream and sugar in it but now I drink it black. I started drinking it that way when I went on a diet. I grind my own beans. Once you start doing that, you’ll never go back to buying ground coffee. Right now I’m drinking 100% Kona coffee. Come have some with me whenever you can. You know where I live.

We grew up on RC…I drank coffee from small kid days…you see im asthmatic so when my two sisters ate a Sunday or a banana split after dinner on a night out I was lucky if I even got a 1/2 scoop of vanilla ice cream…so my dad would drizzle several table spoons of his black coffee over it to kick it up a notch…at home instead of a full blown cereal I’d get to eat a big bowl of coffee with a little cream and sugar…and I’d make a butter sandwich with those big saloon pilot crackers and bust it up in the coffee and that was my hot cereal…I’m like Gloria if I could I’d drink coffee all day out of a pot, if I stop drinking for a while I get withdrawals…headaches and all

  5. Hmm… PEPSI too! I used to drink it all the time until my body started saying “no, you better slow it down!” Now, I’m at one Pepsi day every other month ! I had to make a decision, either Pepsi or other sugars that I enjoy. The other sugars won!

    I didn’t really drink Pepsi for the caffeine. So, I would say I am not a caffeine girl. I do like sweet drinks every once in awhile like lemonade but I would rather use my calories on … Chocolate 🙂 So, I will indulge in a Mocha once a week or so! I do like my Chai every morning 🤣
