One more week to go…how ya doing? Have you checked off everything on your list? Are you relaxing because you are totally organized and done with the frenzy of shopping, baking, and wrapping? Or are you scrambling trying to get it all done and don’t know if you’re going to make it? Either way, I want to tell you to stop and make sure you enjoy your favorite things about the holiday season. Sometimes we get so caught up in making sure everybody else has a good time, that we forget to enjoy it ourselves.
I am writing this very early morning because we still have some things to grab at the stores. Some gifts for co-workers, wrapping paper and bows and something to wear to Christmas Eve service at church…small things, but it’s gotta get done. And I want to be done early, so I can come home, watch a movie and snack on some goodies.
I have about 7 more Christmas movies to watch this season from my massive list I talked about in a previous post. I got a little behind, so I took some things off this list and that’s ok…I kept my must see. I am totally behind on reading A Christmas Carol, but that’s ok too. Old Scrooge will not have a change of heart and see Christmas morning before I do. LOL!!
What I have done is drive around looking at Christmas lights and listen to Christmas music. It’s one of my fave things to do and I am grateful Neil indulges me while I twist and turn in my seat to make sure I’ve seen every house while singing along to the radio. He just shakes his head, laughs at me and asks why I can’t stay in the same key…whatever…I’m having a great time, who cares about the proper key in the car?
The holiday food has started to make an appearance at the house. One of my favorite things is Panettone. It’s an Italian sweet bread that comes out this time of year. I always get the one with the chocolate instead of candied fruit. I usually just eat it plain, but I’ve been known to make french toast with it…yummy. I am planning the menu for next weekend. It’s just going to be the two of us, so I am thinking about a nibble kind of day. An antipasto tray to snack on (the new buzz word for this is charcuterie, but no…it’s antipasto, and I could just live on that if I had to), some cookies of course and eggnog. Here in Hawaii it’s hard to get the italian cookies I love, but thankfully, I do have a friend in the building who makes great christmas cookies…Stephanie, you’re the best.
O.k., so that’s some of my favorite things. When I was a kid, another favorite was putting out milk and cookies for Santa, now I eat a cookie before I go to sleep with a little nog as an homage to the jolly man in the red suit. I hope you make some time to enjoy your favorite Christmas things too, it’s the little things that make life fabulous.
***Question for the comments…What are some of your favorite things to do in the season? Do you have any yearly rituals you make sure you do?
