Flannel Shirts, Slippahs & Pumpkin Spice Lattes

I love fall–it has always been my favorite time of year. The air is crisp and cool, leaves change to beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red. You cozy up next to a fire with mugs of hot chocolate or tea with your favorite book. Autumn is the playground of hayrides and apple picking and nice long walks. Warmer clothes replace your summer shorts and slippahs (flip flops for those not in Hawaii).Slipping into my first flannel shirt of the season always sets me at ease…just like my first pumpkin spice latte on October 1st. (never before, even though they call to me in September)

I am THE autumn girl, but…9 years ago I got on a plane in August and uprooted my life to Hawaii. Why? That will be for another post I promise. So, here I am in the land of endless summer only wearing long pants and closed toe shoes when working (and not even that anymore since I became a full time writer working from home).

So, what’s an east coast girl to do? How do I bring just a touch of fall here to paradise? Well, first I thank God that it does get a little chilly in the mornings and some evenings and when that happens…I bring out the flannel. Pairing it with a tee shirt, shorts and slippahs. LOL. Most of the day it will be tied around my waist waiting for me to feel a slight chill and when I do, it will be wrapped around me like a warm blanket. But, then I will get hot and have to roll up the sleeves. Hahahaha.

Now, in the fall, I have to be content with seeing the season unfold in front of me in movies–the fall shots from “When Harry Met Sally” get me every time or watching a football game when I see fans all bundled up blowing cold breath on their hands trying to warm them. I literally sigh and picture myself there.

It is such a deep part of me–playing in piles of leaves, touch football with the gang, or campfires with apple cider and smores. This time of year all I have to do is close my eyes and dream and I am there. But Hawaii is now my life and I can’t live without it. I have gotten used to the rhythms of the islands and they beat inside me telling me I am home. The islands are right.

And so I will stay in Hawaii, wearing my flannel with my slippahs and shorts, drinking my pumpkin spice iced and keep my perfect version of autumn locked in my mind…always dreaming when October comes…

Hi, I'm Tracie. I am a writer, reader, life coach, lover of the city and the beach. I am a big fan of all things caffeinated. I dig things from many different decades, but am a definite child of the 80's. My blog is about everything and anything my mind conjures up. Enjoy the ride.
